Yeast is a single-celled organism, and its size and other properties can be observed under a microscope. Yeasts convert starch into sugar and sugar into alcohol and carbon dioxide and are used in the bakery industry to produce dough such as bread.

Even the ancient Greeks used yeast to make bread. To make Greek bread, in addition to yeast, you need lukewarm water, a teaspoon of salt, a teaspoon of sugar, flour, olives, some parsley and a head of onion. After mixing the water, flour, yeast, salt and sugar, the mixture should be left to activate the yeast. When the dough rises, the remaining ingredients are added, and the mixture is baked for about 45 minutes.
